Okay To Condemn?

28 June 2007 | Apologetics · Culture | No Comments

A BBC article from today is titled, “Red Cross Condemns Burma ‘Abuses.’” The short of the article is that the Red Cross, usually quietly at work behind the scenes, has publicly denounced Burma’s military government over human rights violations.

Apparently it’s all right for people and organizations to condemn others when the world agrees that its values have been violated. No one is standing up and shouting, “The Red Cross has no right to condemn others!”

But what happens if someone publicly denounces the sex industry? Oppressive economical structures? The wholesale slaughter of unborn children? “These things violate human rights and dignity!”

… “Hey, jerk, don’t judge others. That’s just your personal opinion.”

There’s more inconsistency in our “tolerant” culture than some care to admit.
